Before you book
- Do you cover Rainham and the estates, or just Gillingham itself?
- Both. ME7 and ME8 are our core patch — Gillingham, Rainham, Hempstead, Wigmore, Twydall and Parkwood. We work across the rest of Medway and north Kent as well, and we will tell you plainly if a job is better suited to a firm based closer to it.
- How do you work out what a move costs?
- Volume, distance, access and how much packing you want us to do. Access is the one people forget: a second-floor flat with no lift takes longer than a bungalow with the same amount of furniture. We look at both ends before quoting, so the figure you get is the figure you pay.
- Can you sort parking on a terraced street?
- Yes. Where the road needs a bay suspension we apply to Medway Council on your behalf and factor the lead time into the plan. Some streets simply will not take a Luton, in which case we shuttle with a smaller van and tell you that up front rather than on the morning.
- Do you dismantle and rebuild furniture?
- As standard on house moves. Beds, wardrobes, flat-pack units, table legs off and back on. If something was built in place and will not come apart safely, we will say so at survey rather than trying it with the clock running.
- What if my completion date moves?
- It often does. Tell us as soon as you know and we will rebook. If the two dates no longer meet, containerised storage covers the gap and your things stay inventoried while they wait.
- Whereabouts are you based?
- Gillingham in Kent — one of the Medway towns, sitting on the estuary between Chatham and Rainham. We work ME7 and ME8 as our core patch and cover the rest of Medway and north Kent from the same yard.
- How far ahead should I book?
- As soon as you have a likely date, even a provisional one. Fridays and month-ends fill first, and summer fills before spring does. Booking early costs nothing and moving a provisional date is easy.
On the day
- Do I have to be there on the day?
- Someone needs to be, at least at the loading end, to point out what goes and what stays and to walk the property at the end. If you cannot be at the delivery end, we will agree in advance who can let us in and where things go.
- Will you move a piano, a safe or a pool table?
- Usually, but not on the same crew as a standard house move. Heavy and awkward items get looked at first, because the answer depends as much on the staircase as on the item. Mention it when you enquire and we will scope it properly.
- What will you not take?
- Anything flammable or under pressure — petrol, gas bottles, aerosols by the crate, paint thinners. Plants travel badly and we would rather you took them in the car. Perishable food and anything living is yours to move.
- Do you supply boxes?
- Yes. Double-walled cartons, wardrobe boxes, tape, tissue and bubble. We can drop them off before the move so you can pack at your own pace, or pack everything for you.
- Is my furniture covered while it is in your van?
- We carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and the limits are set out in the booking terms so you can read them before you commit. Anything unusually valuable should be declared at survey so it is properly accounted for.
- Can you store things between completion dates?
- Yes. Containerised storage, inventoried on the way in. Short overlaps and longer waits both work — you tell us roughly how long and we plan the load so the things you need first come out first.
Services, storage and abroad
- Do you do office moves out of hours?
- Most of them. Businesses on Gillingham Business Park and the surrounding units tend to move on a Friday evening or across a weekend so nobody loses a trading day. IT is crated and labelled by desk, and we work to the building manager's access rules.
- What is the difference between a man-and-van job and a full removal?
- Scale and crew. Man and van suits a single room, a part load or a few pieces of furniture — one or two people, one van, usually a few hours. A full removal brings a larger crew, a bigger vehicle, packing materials and furniture dismantling. If you are unsure which you need, describe the load and we will tell you.
- Do you move students and single rooms?
- Yes, and we quote them properly rather than treating them as an afterthought. A first flat in Gillingham with a bed, a desk and eight boxes is a real job with real access problems.
- How does a move to France or Spain work from Medway?
- Road, in almost every case. We load in Gillingham, run the M2 and M20 to the Channel, cross by tunnel or ferry, and drive to the address. Customs paperwork for your household goods is prepared before you travel — see the European removals pages for what that involves.
- Do you handle the customs paperwork for a European move?
- We prepare it. Since Brexit a household move to the EU needs an inventory, proof of your transfer of residence and a customs declaration. We compile the documents, lodge what needs lodging and tell you exactly what you need to supply from your side.
- Can you collect from more than one address?
- Yes — a house and a storage unit, or a parent's place on the way. Mention every pickup point at survey so the route and the load order are planned around them.
- What happens if something gets damaged?
- Tell us before you sign off, or as soon as you find it. The claims process and the reporting window are set out in the booking terms. We would rather hear about a scuffed table straight away than read about it in a review.
- Do you work Saturdays?
- Yes, and Saturdays are the busiest day of the week for us, so they book out first. Sundays and bank holidays are possible but need arranging in advance.
- How do I get a quote?
- Fill in the quote form with your pickup and drop-off addresses and anything useful about access, or call. We will come back to arrange a survey and put a written quote together — normally within a working day or two.
