Man and van

Man and van in Gillingham for the jobs a full removal would overcharge for

One or two people and a van sized to the load. Booked by the job, priced before we set off, and carried by us rather than by you.

Not every move needs a crew of four and a Luton. A lot of what leaves Gillingham on any given week is one room, one van, a couple of hours. Man and van is that job done properly — the same planning, the same care with furniture, the same written price, just at the scale the work actually is.

The one thing we will not do is quote you a low hourly figure and then find reasons for the clock to run. You tell us what is moving and where. We tell you what it costs.

What it is right for

  • A single room out of a shared house
  • A student move to or from campus
  • A part load — the furniture, not the boxes
  • One large item: a sofa, a bed, a fridge-freezer
  • A collection from a warehouse or a marketplace seller
  • Clearing a flat before an inventory check
  • A run to storage and back again later

What it is not right for

  • A three-bed house with a loft and a shed
  • Anything needing several vans on the same morning
  • A piano, a safe or a full-size pool table
  • Office relocations with IT to crate
  • A move to France — that is a different van and different paperwork

For those, look at house removals or office moves.

How we price it

By the job, not by a stopwatch. We ask what is moving, where from, where to, and what the access is like at both ends — stairs, lift, parking. That gives us the van size and the crew, and those two things give us the price. If you add something on the day we will tell you what it changes before we load it.

The Medway routes we run most

Gillingham to Rainham and back is the commonest small move on our books, closely followed by the estates — Twydall, Parkwood, Wigmore — and runs into Chatham and Rochester. Anything along the A2 or off the M2 at junction 3 or 4 is straightforward. Longer one-way runs out of Kent are fine too; they just need a bit more notice.

Packing materials

Available if you want them, and worth having for a part load, because loose belongings in a van move around far more than a stacked wall of boxes does. We can drop cartons off beforehand or bring them with us. What we cannot do is pack a room from scratch while the van waits — if you want a pack, book it as one and see the packing service.

Man and van — straight answers

How many people come with the van?

One or two, depending on what is being moved and where it is going. A wardrobe down three flights is not a one-person job and we will not pretend otherwise. We tell you the crew size when we quote.

Do you help carry, or just drive?

We carry. A driver who sits in the cab while you shift a sofa is not a removal service. If you want to help, help — it is your move — but nobody is expecting you to.

Can you come at short notice?

Often, especially midweek. Weekends and month-ends are tighter. Ring and ask rather than assuming — and if we cannot do it we will say so straight away rather than leaving you hanging.

Do you cover Rainham and the estates for small jobs too?

Yes. ME7 and ME8 across the board — Gillingham, Rainham, Twydall, Parkwood, Hempstead, Wigmore. Small jobs get the same access planning as big ones, just less of it.

Can I ride in the van?

Usually yes, if there is a seat. Say so when you book so we send a vehicle with room.

Small job? Still worth quoting properly.

Tell us what is moving and where it is going. You will get a price, not an hourly rate and a shrug.
